Install the app on your phone
Bloodless works like a native app on your phone — with one important difference: your Medical Directive is available even when you have no internet connection. Install it to your home screen for instant access in any situation.
When you use Bloodless, your Directive is saved directly on your phone. No internet connection is needed to view it. Your private medical information never depends on a server being reachable.
What does "install" mean?
Bloodless is a Progressive Web App (PWA). That means it runs in your browser but can be installed to your home screen like a regular app. Once installed:
- Opens full-screen — no browser address bar or tabs, just your Directive
- Works offline — your Directive loads from your device, not the internet
- Updates automatically — when you're online, the app stays current in the background
- No app store required — nothing to download, no storage to manage, no permissions to grant
What works without internet?
Once you've visited Bloodless at least once on your device, the following are available offline:
- Your complete Directive — all your medical decisions, blood choices, and special instructions
- Your agent and emergency contacts — names, phone numbers, and relationships
- Any edits you make — changes save on your device immediately and sync to the server automatically when connectivity returns
Install on iPhone
- Open bloodless.org in Safari
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
- Tap Add — the Bloodless icon now appears on your home screen
Install on Android
- Open bloodless.org in Chrome
- Tap the three-dot menu (top right), then Install app or Add to Home Screen
- Tap Install — the Bloodless icon now appears on your home screen
Desktop (Chrome, Edge)
Click the install icon in the address bar (it looks like a monitor with a download arrow), then click Install.
How syncing works
If you have an account, your Directive syncs between your devices. Here's what happens in different situations:
- Online: Changes save to your device and sync to the server within seconds
- Offline: Changes save to your device immediately. When you're back online, they sync automatically — no action needed
- Multiple devices: Sign in on any device to see your latest Directive. Each device keeps a local copy for offline access
If you're in a hospital with poor signal, your Directive is already on your phone. Open the app — your medical decisions, blood choices, and agent contact information are all available instantly, no internet required.
