Add Healthcare Agents
A Healthcare Agent is someone you designate to make blood-related medical decisions on your behalf if you can't communicate — during surgery, in an emergency, or while unconscious.
Who to choose
- Someone you trust completely with medical decisions
- Someone who understands your decisions — discuss your blood choices with them
- Someone reachable — they need to answer the phone in an emergency
- Someone nearby (if possible) — they may need to come to the hospital
Primary and alternate agents
You designate a primary agent (first contact) and an alternate agent (backup if the primary is unavailable). Both need:
- Full legal name
- Relationship to you (spouse, parent, friend, etc.)
- Phone number
- Email (optional)
Encrypting agent information
By default, your agent's contact details are visible on the wallet card and QR code. If you prefer privacy, enable encryption in Settings — a passcode will be required to view agent details when someone scans your QR code.
Talk to your agent
Designating someone isn't enough — they need to know:
- That you've designated them (and their responsibilities)
- Where your Directive is (phone, wallet card, printed copy)
- Your specific decisions, especially for "Personal Decision" items
- The passcode, if you've encrypted agent info
See Guide for Healthcare Agents — share this link with your agent.
